I remember working on Evesham Micro PC's in the early noughties when I ran a computer shop. It was local to me but didn't realise how big a company it was or of course the lotus story.

Usually at high altitude, lower octanes fly more. Like I've filled up with as little as 79 octane at a Sinclair inside Yellowstone NP and been fine at the top of the rockies in a post-2010 car.

It wasn't just 40RA but this period also saw the rise of actual, proper police kits for specialized units. Back in the 80s and 90s, ramraids was one issue but the lack of chasing capabilities was another problem. Cops at that time were generally driving Vauxhall Astras which, let's face it... Ain't nothing at all. So thieves started to hatch plans to get vehicles that they know that the basic cops cannot catch and that's when two vehicles came into play in their granduer schemes and that's the Ford Sierra Cosworth and the Lotus Carlton. With the Ford, it's way too easy to break in and with its turbocharged engine at that point of time plus racing certified suspension, it was smoking the cops and every owner that had it was pretty mad about how they kept losing their cars only to find them trashed beyond belief or got wrongfully arrested when the car was registered to them but them not driving it at the crime scene. Then you have the Lotus Carlton which was practically uncatchable no matter what. The cops were soo out of hand that they couldn't catch these two vehicles every time it was used in crimes and the cops were so desperate that they had to drag out the already retired SD1 with it's V8 to even barely catch up but they still couldn't. Then the cops quickly got to work and in 1992 stock up on the now 2nd-gen Sierra Cosworth Sapphire model thus "evening the playing field" which indeed did drastically cut down ramraids across the country and this also helped the cops to realize that having a ratio of super machines against daily cop cars helps alot in tense situations like that.

The myth has grown arms and legs over the years, 40RA's crime spree was very very short lived in reality (it was only a week or 2)

This is the type of content that I come here for. I had the privilege of seeing a Lotus Carlton in real life in the 90s and instantly fell in love. It looked like something your Nan would have driven, but with just enough spice that if you know, you know. BTW, Evesham is pronounced Eve-Shum, not Eve's ham (that did make me chuckle).

I drove one for most of 1992. As a younger man, It blew my mind, and generated a never ending stable of speed loving ladies.

The comment at 11:32 was mine from 2 years ago, being based on the best information available at the time, most notably from a video posted on the Curious and Spiritual channel. His information is usually pretty accurate, and was very compelling at the time. However, a more recent investigation by Oscar's Garage, and subsequent interview with Richard Austin finally got to the truth. What can I say. We all get things wrong from time to time. In my defence, there was very little to go on at the time, and I posted the comment in good faith. And let's be honest, as petrol heads, I think we all wanted the car to have survived. Kudos to Oscar's Garage for getting the story straight.
